Taking an AI product from prototype to production
The product, architecture, evaluation, and operating decisions required to move beyond an impressive demo.

A prototype proves possibility
A prototype shows that a model can create a useful output in selected cases. Production requires a repeatable user outcome across real inputs, permissions, latency constraints, model failures, and changing data. The gap is primarily product and systems engineering.
Define the target user, moment of use, acceptable error, and fallback before expanding features.
Build evaluation into development
Create a reviewed dataset representing important scenarios. Measure correctness, support, safety, latency, and cost on every meaningful change. Combine automated checks with human review for qualities that are difficult to score mechanically.
Instrument the product so user corrections and abandoned outputs become learning signals. Separate prompt experiments from production configuration and preserve version history.
Operate for change
Models, prices, policies, and user expectations change quickly. Use provider abstractions only where they preserve real optionality, and keep workflow rules outside model prompts when possible. Add rate limits, caching, budgets, observability, and graceful degradation.
The durable advantage is rarely a single prompt. It is the proprietary workflow, context, feedback loop, and distribution surrounding the model.
